About Prof Fred Gault
Fred Gault was a theoretical physicist at the University of Durham in the UK before joining Statistics Canada to be responsible for science, technology and innovation statistics, as well as statistics on telecommunications and broadcasting. While at Statistics Canada he was an active member of the OECD Working Party of National Experts of Science and Technology Indicators (NESTI), chairing NESTI in 2002-2008. He was also the first Chair of the Working Party on Indicators for the Information Society (WPIIS). WPIIS defined the ICT Sector and electronic commerce. After Statistics Canada, he was a visitor, for a year at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Ottawa. Following that he was an active in research activities in Africa.
