Marikana Massacre: Respect and Retrospect
10th Anniversary Events at UJ
15 August 2022, Bunting Road Campus, School of Tourism and Hospitality
A decade ago, police slaughtered 34 striking mineworkers. No police have been charged, no compensation has been paid and Cyril Ramaphosa, implicated in the massacre, has refused to apologise. We detail and reflect on events, discuss their impact, consider what’s changed for ordinary people, contextualise using the Rand Revolt centenary, and picket for ‘Justice for Marikana!’

Join us at the battle site of the Rand Revolt, on a koppie above the main venue.
18:00 Demanding Justice – Candlelight Vigil
Join the Community Organising Working Group and the Marikana Solidarity Campaign in a candlelight vigil at the National Prosecuting Authority, 84 Pritchard Street.
