About Prof Nripendra P. Rana
Professor Nripendra P. Rana is a distinguished academic in digital marketing and information systems. He currently holds the position of Professor of Digital Marketing and Systems at Queen’s Business School, Queen’s University Belfast (UK), where he also serves as Head of the Department of International Business, Entrepreneurship, and Marketing. In addition, he is a Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Department of Marketing Management at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
Professor Rana was recognised as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher, placing him among the top 1% of global researchers by citations in Web of Science for three consecutive years (2020–2022) – a testament to his sustained research excellence and influence in the field. Since 2020, he has also been recognised as one of the world’s leading scientists, ranked among the top 2% globally according to a list compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier. This distinction is based on citation impact and other bibliometric indicators.
In 2025, he was awarded the prestigious NRF B1 rating by the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa, which acknowledges researchers for the quality, consistency, and impact of their scholarly outputs.
His body of work has attracted over 54,000 citations on Google Scholar, with an h-index of 106 and an i10-index of 285, reflecting his significant global academic influence. He has published more than 350 papers in leading academic journals, conference proceedings, and edited volumes. His research focuses on the adoption and diffusion of emerging information and communication technologies (ICTs), e-commerce, m-commerce, e-government, and digital and social media marketing.
Professor Rana has co-edited several books on topics such as digital marketing, emerging markets, and operations management. He has also led special issues and served as organiser for academic tracks, mini-tracks, and panels at international conferences. He is the Chief Editor of the International Journal of Electronic Government Research and an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Information Management. He is also recognised as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) in the United Kingdom.
