About Dr Riaan

Riaan is an economist with more than 17 years’ advisory, research and teaching experience. He has wide-ranging knowledge in most economic sectors and economic development and has developed several economic models that contribute practically to decision making in a public and private institution context. In recent years he has specialised in the social and economic dimensions of inequality, economic and socio-economic impact assessment, decision support systems, and CGE modelling, with a focus on regional disparities, labour markets, fiscal reform, tourism, energy policy, development planning and international trade. Riaan has taught both local and international students and development practitioners. Based on his private and professional experiences, Riaan has an in-depth knowledge of emerging market dynamics and intercultural relations.
