Purpose
The purpose of this qualification to produce graduates competent to apply theoretical and practical fundamental knowledge and skills in the fields of medical science and research. The programme provides extensive theoretical knowledge and practical training about various related modules and experiential training. The outcome of these combined offerings results in the achievement of purpose of the qualification as stipulated in the curricular. This qualification leads to registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Career Opportunities
Medical laboratory scientists analyse clinical specimens submitted to laboratories by medical practitioners, and interpret the results.
Admission Requirements
Minimum APS of 30, English 5 (60%+), Mathematics 4 (50%+), Physical Sciences 4 (50%+) and Life Sciences 5 (60%+).
Selection Process
Mathematical Literacy, Technical Maths and Technical Science are not accepted.
