Abstract:

In this presentation, we will show how chemical engineering principles such as thermodynamics, phase equilibria, heat and mass transfer, physical chemistry and kinetics can be used to characterize hydrocarbons and their mixtures and to develop generalized methods for the estimation of properties of fuels as well as experimental measurement of transport properties of undefined complex mixtures at elevated pressures. While these methods may be applied to any fluids and processes, their applications in some specific cases will be demonstrated through examples as the time permits.

Biography:

Prof. Riazi has about 40 years of global teaching and research experience in both academia and industry working on projects related to applied thermodynamics, transport processes, phase behavior, modeling, and simulation, thermophysical properties of materials, oil and gas production and processing, oil spill behavior, coal and fuel processing, biofuels processing and properties, flow assurance, polymer synthesis and renewable (solar) energy. He received both PhD and MSc degrees in chemical engineering from
Pennsylvania State University where he also worked as a faculty member in chemical engineering with projects sponsored by API and US DOE. He received BSc in Chemical Engineering from Sharif University with highest honor and a gold medal. He is the founding editor and editor in chief of IJOGCT journal and has about 140 publications including 7 books and 10 book chapters in various areas of oil, gas, coal and biofuel technology as well as oil spill behavior and cleaning published by ASTM and Taylor and Francis.
