Human Rights and Social Justice Project
Project Brief
This is a research-based project under the Department of Education and Curriculum Studies in the Faculty of Education that is expected to run from 2023 to 2024. The aim of this project is to engage researchers and academics in the Department of Education and Curriculum Studies (ECS) to embark on thought provoking research in the areas of human rights and social justice in education. It therefore tries to link Curriculum Reforms South Africa has thus far made to human rights and social justices at policy and practice levels. In doing so, the project seeks to explain and understand how different forms of inequalities and curriculum injustices play out within the schools and society in the face of deepening inequalities and injustices in South Africa.
Expected Outcomes
The findings from this research will be published in a peer-reviewed book by 2024. It is also envisaged that at the close of the project, there shall be an International workshop where different scholars and researchers will converge in South Africa to share their academic experiences and research findings.
Current State of Affairs
Meanwhile, researchers are on the ground conducting literature reviews and other related works. The Project leaders and the research Assistant have already applied for ethical clearance from the Educational Research Ethics and Clearance Committee. Once the clearance is granted, researchers will be on the ground collecting and analysing the data for their projects.
