The Centre for Africa-China Studies (CACS) at the University of Johannesburg in partnership with the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship at the University of Pretoria invites you to a seminar titled: South Africa and Nigeria: Africa’s indispensable relationship

The relationship between South Africa and Nigeria has continental implications due to the economic influence, political clout, and demographic dividend the two countries can marshal. The countries’ relationship is such that, if conducted with Pan-African foresight, skill, and tact, could help to surmount the multitude of problems that beset the African continent. Professor (Ambassador) Ibrahim Gambari will bring decades-long experience as an academic and diplomat to discuss this indispensable relationship.

Professor Ibrahim Gambari

Prof. Ibrahim Gambari served as the Nigerian Minister of External Affairs between 1984-1985. Prior to joining the United Nations Secretariat, he served as Nigeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations between 1990 and 1999. Prof. Gambari served as Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Angola and Darfur. As UN Undersecretary-general for Political Affairs between 2005 and 2007, Gambari established a Mediation Support Unit (MSU). He is the outgoing Chief of Staff for the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, and holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations from Colombia University, New York.
