The University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Library, invites you to a book launch event titled: Prison Love
Guest: Tshidi Monkoe
Facilitator: Rachel Manamela
Overview: In line with the topical Thabo Bester/ Nandipha Magudumana saga, this book covers a romantic relationship
between an inmate and a free civilian. The book details how she and the man in prison met and fell in love.
It looks at the challenges they faced in the relationship and when he came out of prison and the backlash, Monkoe faced from
society and her family for being with someone incarcerated. The story covers how she was once emotionally and physically
abused by her ex-husband, she later found love in the hands of the former prisoner.
