UJ’s delegates impressed the judges with their compelling presentations and ability to effectively communicate their research to a diverse audience. A special commendation goes to Refilwe Chilo, whose outstanding performance earned a well-deserved third-place award in the national competition. Please click here for the VC Newsletter highlight.
“The experience of meeting doctoral candidates from other Universities and hearing (in the simplest form) the exciting research they are doing was amazing. I got to network with them and understood that some challenges in this PhD journey are more common than I had realized. I am grateful for the support and encouragement I received from the UJ Research Capacity Development team (RCD), it made a massive difference. Participating in these competitions was worth the time, effort and experience, coming home with a win was a plus.” – Refilwe Chilo

I am truly honoured to be chosen as the regional winner of the SANORD three-minute thesis (3MT) competition, representing the University of Johannesburg. Participating in the UJ institutional, national, international and now regional 3MT competitions has helped me to sharpen my presentation skills and to gain the confidence to discuss the societal contribution of my research with others. I am immensely thankful for the support of my supervisor, Professor Uche Okonkwo, and the RCD Unit at the Postgraduate School, University of Johannesburg; without both of you, this achievement would not be possible. – Odifentse Lehasa
