Programme Fees


Purpose

The purpose of the BSc Hons (Food Technology) is to develop food industry practitioners who can independently integrate and apply advanced scientific technical and vocational principles and techniques. Graduates will have a deep and systematic understanding of current thinking, practice, theory and methodology in the area of Food Technology as well as of its role in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). In addition, this qualification will prepare students for postgraduate study (master’s level) and as well as provide skilled and competent graduates for the workplace of today and the future.


Career Opportunities

The graduates of this programme will have broad knowledge and skills relevant to the Biotechnology sector such as in the production of biopharmaceuticals, biofuels, biopolymers and nanomaterials and the bioengineering of sustainable environmentally-friendly processes. The emphasis of the programme will be to ensure that the graduates are prepared for a career in Biotechnology in which they contribute innovatively and actively to the growth of the bio-economy in South Africa. This qualification may serve as a career path for graduates to pursue further educational qualifications.


Admission Requirements

A prospective student must have obtained a minimum average mark of at least 65% for a relevant undergraduate degree, or Advanced Diploma in Biotechnology and/or equivalent qualification.
