Get Involved In Community Engagement

The Community Engagement Unit hosts various institutional projects and programmes throughout the year. As the UJ community (staff and students) and our partners (community-based organisations) you can join the community engagement unit to participate and contribute in the communities for positive societal impact.

For Students

As a UJ student, you can sign up to be a student volunteer in communities near UJ campuses. To sign up, visit the Community Engagement offices at your respective campus. Alternatively, sign up online by clicking this link: Volunteer Sign-Up.

For Staff

You can participate in community engagement by registering a community engagement project or by joining a project in your faculty/division

For Community-Based Organisations

  • Community-based organisations (CBOs) can partner with the Community Engagement Unit to implement projects that make a positive societal impact.

  • Ensure that your organisation meets the following criteria:
    • It is registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO) or a non-profit company (NPC) It is in good standing
    • Include a detailed proposal/expression of interest with your application
    • The organisation must be a registered non-profit organisation (NPO) or non-profit company (NPC).
    • It must be in good standing.

  • As a CBO in partnership with the University of Johannesburg you will be included in the CBO quarterly forums. The purpose of these forums is to discuss partnerships with the various CBOs with which UJ has a volunteering partnership, capacity development for the CBOs, and to provide a platform for the CBOs to network and share information.
  • Partnered CBOs will participate in quarterly forums aimed at fostering collaboration, capacity building, and networking opportunities with other UJ volunteering partners
