Purpose
Many high school teachers in South Africa lack formal training in religion studies. Our SLP addresses this by offering an introductory course on key concepts, aligned with the school curriculum. This program equips teachers with the skills to teach religion effectively, preparing students for diverse, multi-religious environments. It introduces essential academic concepts to high school teachers and other interested individuals. You will learn about:
• Defining religion as a contested exercise
• Origins of religion/religions • Symbols in religions • Rituals in religions
• Texts in religions
• Teachings in religions
• Social forms in the context of religion • Religious leadership
Admission Requirements
Interested students need to have a Bachelor’s degree in Education at NQF level 7 or an equivalent, OR a Bachelor’s degree in Arts/ Humanities at NQF level 7, OR a 4-year Higher Diploma in Education.
Selection Process
Selection will be made based on the academic merit.
