The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is dedicated to providing healthy and affordable food choices across its campuses, recognising the vital role that nutrition plays in the well-being and academic success of its community. This commitment is evident through various dining facilities and initiatives that cater to diverse dietary preferences and promote sustainable food practices.
The Kerzner@UJ
Serving as a central hub for culinary and hospitality services, The Kerzner@UJ offers several dining venues that prioritise health, affordability, and sustainability:
- The Waterford Restaurant: Located in the Kerzner Building on the Auckland Park Bunting Road Campus, this premier dining venue provides breakfast and lunch to the campus community. UJ School of Tourism and Hospitality (STH) Madibeng Restaurant
The STH Madibeng Restaurant offers a diverse menu that includes healthy and affordable options for the university community. Regularly updated “Meal of the Day” menus feature a variety of dishes, including vegetarian and vegan choices, catering to different dietary needs. Additionally, the takeaway sandwich and salad menu provides quick, nutritious, and budget-friendly options for those on the go.
Sustainable Food Practices
UJ’s commitment to health and affordability extends to its sustainable food practices. The university actively engages in initiatives that promote ecological intelligence and food security. By teaching individuals to produce their own food and implementing projects such as aquaponics, hydroponics, and agroecology, UJ fosters a culture of sustainability. These efforts not only provide fresh produce for campus dining but also contribute to keeping food costs affordable for the university community.
Through these comprehensive efforts, the University of Johannesburg ensures that all members of its community have access to healthy, affordable, and diverse food choices, reinforcing its dedication to well-being and sustainability.
