Start-ups

Often, the development of an invention includes the creation of a company that focuses on developing the commercial potential of the invention.

UJ encourages the creation of companies that wish to develop and commercialise the technologies issued from the research done in its laboratories. The use of these technologies requires an agreement between UJ and the start-up.

When the technology involved is covered by one or more patents (or patent applications), the contract used is typically the exclusive license, allocated in the start-up’s sector of activity. For software agreements, a non-exclusive license is usually agreed upon.

Conflicts of interest – When UJ professors or employees participate in the creation of a start-up, it’s important to settle questions of potential conflicts of interest related to the situation. Those concerned should contact the C&TTO.
