The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is committed to providing free drinking water to its students, staff, and visitors through various initiatives aimed at promoting health and sustainability.

Installation of Water Fountains

In response to student requests for accessible drinking water, UJ has installed water fountains across its campuses. Notably, all campus libraries are equipped with these facilities, ensuring that individuals spending extended periods in these study areas have convenient access to fresh water. This initiative reflects the university’s dedication to enhancing campus amenities and supporting the well-being of its community.

Healthy Campus Programme

As part of the UJ Healthy Campus Programme, the university has committed to providing free drinking water stations on campus. This programme encompasses various health and wellness initiatives, including the promotion of sustainable food services and the installation of water stations to encourage healthy hydration habits among the university community.

Innovative Water Solutions

UJ is also exploring advanced technologies to enhance water accessibility. The university has implemented hydropanel technology capable of harvesting clean drinking water from atmospheric vapour. While this initiative currently focuses on providing water to communities in the Eastern Cape, it demonstrates UJ’s commitment to innovative solutions for water provision, which may influence future on-campus projects.

Through these efforts, the University of Johannesburg ensures that free drinking water is readily available to all members of its community, reinforcing its commitment to health, sustainability, and the overall well-being of students, staff, and visitors.
