Hybrid Seminar Titled: Mzilikazi Reimagined: Decolonising a Southern African King
The College of Business and Economics Decolonisation Committee at the University of Johannesburg invites you to a hybrid seminar titled: Mzilikazi Reimagined: Decolonising a Southern African King.
This seminar explores King Mzilikazi kaMashobane’s complex legacy, challenging biased colonial narratives. It blends oral histories and diverse sources to reveal his vast migrations, military prowess, and resistance against both Shaka and colonial forces. Discover how this dynamic leader shaped Southern Africa’s heritage and landscapes. We’ll examine his nation-building strategies, the cultural syncretism he fostered, and the enduring impact of his kingdom on regional identities and historical memory.
Join us for a book signing with the author at the end of the seminar.
