UJ Nelson Mandela International Day

In honour of Nelson Mandela International Day, the UJ Community Engagement unit invites staff and students to join them on 18 July 2024 to commemorate the day through participating in various community engagement activities. The theme for 2024 is : “it is in your hands now”. The Community Engagement unit has several activities planned for Nelson Mandela month as follows:

18 July 2024: Hospital Visits:

Visiting hospitals to lend a helping hand to the sick; buses will be departing from each campus at 08:30 in the morning on the 18th of July 2024. Please find details of hospitals listed per campus.

Auckland Park Bunting Road Campus

Auckland Park Kingsway Campus
– Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital

Doornfontein Campus

Mandela Day Walk and Run

We are calling upon the UJ community to be part of the positive change. You can walk or run from anywhere in the world to honour and celebrate Tata Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. Nelson Mandela Month Webinar

The Community Engagement Unit will be hosting a webinar on the 26th of July 2024 from 10:00 to 12:00. The theme for 2024 is: It’s in our hands to combat poverty and equity. This will be a hybrid event (taking place both online and in-person). There are limited seats for in-person attendance. If you want to attend in person, you’ll need to RSVP on https://forms.office.com/r/AcPY8cdQ38.

Mandela Donations

The UJ Community Engagement unit invites staff and students to donate non-perishable food items and winter items such as clothes, beanies, socks and blankies. The donationswill be handed to selected community-based organizations serving the most needy in our communities. Each campus has an Orange Wheelie Bin at the main entrance for collections between 1 – 31 July 2024. You can drop your donations off at the CE offices, alternatively click on https://forms.office.com/r/XbA9G8E2rR for donation collection requests.
