Trilateral Research Chair Launch

Having had to cancel the Chair’s planned launch in South Africa in April 2020 because of the COVID-19 lockdowns, the Chair instead used the opportunity of the Transformative Innovation Policy 2020 Forum event in October to launch the project. Erika Kraemer-Mbula presented a brief outline of the project’s intentions and activities. Following this, several of the project’s PhD students presented brief outlines of their research. And the session finished with a panel discussion involving the three PIs of the project partner organisations.

Discussion on Living Catchments Experimental Policy Engagement

This was a session held during the Transformative Innovation Policy 2020 Forum to reflect on an Experimental Policy Engagement involving a live project in South Africa called ‘Living Catchments’ and members of the Chair project along with members of the Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium (TIPC). The Living Catchments project was in the process of trying to bring together practitioners and local stakeholders around strategic water source areas (SWSAs) in South Africa who are working in silos, namely those who are focussed on ecological infrastructure and those focussed on the built infrastructure, to improve the sustainability of SWSAs as part of efforts to improve South Africa’s water security. The Chair’s involvement was to help the Living Catchments project team to reflect on their theory of change such that the activities would become more transformative. The purpose of the session was to discuss immediate reflections on the experience, drawing from across the participants in the engagement.
