Description

The International Development Research Centre awarded the University of Johannesburg a grant for the project “New Partnerships and Approaches for Strengthening the Capacity of Innovation Agencies in Sub-Saharan Africa.” This initiative, led by Prof Erika Kraemer-Mbula and supported by Dr Ellen Chipango, aims to identify recent trends, strengths, and weaknesses of African national innovation agencies to determine their capacity-strengthening needs. Specific objectives include reviewing these agencies through case studies, describing their role in inclusive national and regional STI systems, identifying opportunities for research and capacity strengthening with agencies and private sector leaders, and mobilising public and private sector partners to develop a programming agenda for IDRC and other donors.
