Evidence For Informing Scaling And Impact In Youth and Women-Led Clean Energy Enterprises In Africa
Duration: 2024-2025
Funder: Canadian International Development Research Centre
Description
This project addresses the vulnerabilities youth and women-led SMEs face in Africa, especially in the clean energy sector. These enterprises are crucial for economic growth but often lack access to finance, markets, and training due to structural and socio-cultural barriers. By conducting action research with climate innovation and entrepreneurship actors, we aim to understand and enhance factors that aid these businesses. The project will generate evidence to inform the scaling of successful models, promoting inclusive clean energy transitions. Implemented over 36 months in Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, and South Africa, it involves collaborations with numerous partners to drive impactful, gender-responsive policy changes. The Chair is a partner on a project run by the African Centre for Technology Studies, funded by the Canadian International Development Research Centre.
