Educational Psychology Community

What is our community like?

The Department of Educational Psychology at UJ is distinguished from other similar departments nationally and internationally by its focus on community educational psychology.

Our emphasis is on community-based academic and research work within a theoretical framework for community educational psychology. This we do through promoting an ethos of care in communities and the provision of support to different systems in school communities. The latter includes the design, implementation and management of appropriate educational psychological interventions in an ethical and culturally sensitive manner. Our main focus is on the young child, the adolescent and young adult within their families and communities and the barriers that may occur to prevent learning and development.
