SOCSA Film Workshop with UJTV: A Resounding Success
The School of Communication Students Association (SOCSA) at the University of Johannesburg, in partnership with UJTV, hosted an immensely successful Film Workshop on the 18th and 19th of July. This two-day event attracted students from various disciplines, all eager to deepen their knowledge and skills in film production.
The first day of the workshop was dedicated to a comprehensive theoretical crash course. Experts from the industry and academic faculty members covered essential topics such as film planning, pre-production, screenwriting, and cinematography. Attendees were provided with insights into the intricate processes that precede the actual filming, equipping them with the necessary foundation to create compelling narratives and visually stunning films.
Day two shifted focus to practical activities, giving students the opportunity to apply what they had learned in real-world scenarios. Group shooting exercises allowed participants to engage hands-on with professional equipment, guided by seasoned mentors from UJTV. This practical component was particularly valuable, offering students a chance to hone their technical skills and collaborate in a team setting.
The workshop ran from 10:00 to 15:45 on both days, providing ample time for in-depth exploration of each topic and ensuring that students left with a robust understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of filmmaking.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many highlighted the balance between theory and practice as a standout feature of the workshop, noting that it significantly enhanced their learning experience. The collaboration with UJTV was also praised, as it provided students with access to high-quality equipment and expertise.
The SOCSA Film Workshop not only succeeded in its educational goals but also fostered a sense of community among aspiring filmmakers at the University of Johannesburg. It created a platform for students to network, share ideas, and build lasting connections that will support their future endeavors in the film industry.
Given the resounding success of this event, SOCSA and UJTV are already discussing plans for future workshops. The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by both the organizers and participants ensure that the legacy of this workshop will continue to inspire and educate many more students in the years to come.
