Intercampus Loans (ICL)
ICL is a service through which material held by one UJ campus Library is sent to another UJ campus library for the patron’s convenience.

Q1. What is the difference between Intercampus Loans and Interlibrary Loans?
Answer:
ICL – when you need to borrow items owned by any of the UJ Campus libraries.
ILL – when postgraduates need to borrow items not owned by any UJ libraries. For more information on ILL, visit this page
Q2. Who may use this service and How?
Answer:
Registered UJ students and UJ staff may use this service:
- You may not have any outstanding fines on books from any UJ Campus Library
- You must collect the requested items within 5 working days, if not the items will be returned to the lending library
Request via the Internet only: Please fill in the fields when you request a book online. You can use the online ICL request system here, as we do not accept any other means of requesting ICL (for auditor purposes). No ICL requests will be processed without the necessary information regarding your student/staff number, address, etc.
Q3. What may be requested via ICL?
Answer:
- All the books on the open collection including books on the reading corners
- Journal article requests will be filled with a photocopy of the article
The following may not be requested via ICL:
- Special collection items
- Reserve items
- Bound volumes and current issues of journals
- Audio visual materials

Q6. How long does it take and how will I know when the ICL items arrive?
Answer:
Requests are processed during week days only. Availability, transit time, and other factors impact on the time of arrival. Items generally arrive within 2 to 3 working days.
You will not be notified when the items arrive. It is your responsibility to phone or collect the items within 3-5 working days after submitting your request.
Q7. How do I return borrowed items?
Answer:
Items borrowed via ICL must be returned to the same Campus Library where it was requested from.
Please return items on time – patrons with overdue materials will be blocked from checking out additional items.
Q8. What about costs?
Answer:
The ICL service is free of charge.
You will be liable for all fines if you do not return the material on the due date.
