About Prof Habib Noorbhai

Prof. Habib Noorbhai is a Professor in Health & Sports Science and serves as the Director of the Biomedical Engineering and Healthcare Technology (BEAHT) Research Centre at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). He completed his MPhil (Biokinetics) and Ph.D. (Exercise Science) at the University of Cape Town (UCT). He is an established researcher in cricket science (with an NRF rating) and also conducts research in XR, sports innovation and health technology. Prof. Noorbhai is also a Visiting Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). More notably, he won Mr South Africa in 2017, using the title to spearhead community engagement within health, sport, and education spheres. He was later inducted as a Golden Key International Honorary Member at UCT in 2018 and was awarded the Distinguished Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Teacher Excellence in 2021 at UJ.
