About Dr Phokele Maponya

Dr Phokele Maponya holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Management from the University of the Free State, a Hons (Agricultural Economics) from the University of Pretoria, a Master in Human Ecology from the University of South Africa and a PhD(Environmental Management) from the University of South Africa and have more than 15 years Teaching, Research and Project Management experience and achieved the following: Acted as a reviewer for various journal and serves in various journal’s editorial boards including Journal of Agricultural Science. Dr Maponya have published widely in the field of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences: Published more than 20 articles in different international peer reviewed journals; 20 peer reviewed conference proceedings and published 7-chapter book. Dr Maponya worked at the University of South Africa; Development Bank of Southern Africa; University of Johannesburg and did Post-Doctoral Fellowship at University of Johannesburg. Dr Maponya is currently employed at the Agricultural Research Council as Project Manager and Leader. Dr Maponya have supervised Hons and Masters Students at various universities in South Africa including University of South Africa, North West University, Tshwane University of Technology and University of the Free State. Dr Maponya is currently involved in various big projects being funded by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, Water Research Commission and Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Some of Dr Phokele Maponya career highlights included being awarded Y rating by the National Research Foundation, registered as a Professional Scientist by SACNASP and being awarded 2016 Agricultural Research Council Young Researcher Excellent prize.
