About Liesel Kassier

PHD Topic: Sustainable Business Models: Redesigning corporate financial resilience measurements to promote socio-ecological transitions.

Specialisations:

Liesel’s specialisations include bioenergy, green economy, renewable energies, economic development, and sustainability. She has extensive experience as an economist and is currently pursuing her PhD where she is examining Sustainable Business Model Indicators, which involves the development of a new corporate socio-ecological resilience indicator and examining the interface between resilience and sustainability.

Notable background info (past and current positions):

Liesel currently teaches a green manufacturing and sustainable finance module on both the GIBS (University of Pretoria) MBA programme as well as on the TWIMS (Toyota Wessels Institute for Manufacturing Studies) executive short courses. Liesel also supervises research projects of GIBS MBA students. Liesel has previously held positions at Nedbank, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), and the Department of Economic Development and Tourism in the KwaZulu-Natal Government. In 2020 Liesel was a finalist in the REN 21 Steve Sawyer Memorial global award for leading African individuals involved in Renewable Energy and was a panelist at the London Climate Action Week.
