About Mr. Daniel Carstens

Qualifications: BTech Industrial Design (Cum Laude)(UJ)(2015); Ndip Three-Dimensional Design (Cum Laude)(UJ)(2014). Title: Lecturer, Department of Industrial Design. BA First year coordinator.

Short Bio: Daniel completed a BTech Degree in Industrial Design at the University of Johannesburg in 2015 with a dissertation project titled “The user centered design of an ergonomic tattoo machine”. This research focused on reducing the risk factors contributing to the development of musculoskeletal orders in tattoo artists. After completing his BTech, Daniel co-founded and award-winning industrial design consultancy, The Ideamongery. The consultancy’s focus is on product and materials development, small-scale manufacturing, unique interiors, activations and experience collateral. He has lectured part-time since 2016 and since 2024, appointed as a full-time lecturer. He is currently undertaking his MA Industrial design, focusing on appropriate manufacturing technology development for the South African context.
