About Mrs Ariela Berkman James

Ariela is an assistant lecturer and PhD candidate in the department of Childhood Education at the University of Johannesburg. She started her academic career in 2015 at The University of the Witwatersrand where she obtained a Bachelor of Education (Foundation Phase), B.Ed. Honours and her Master of Education degree. From 2021 to 2023 she tutored English education courses to 1st and 4th year Education students at the Wits School of Education (WSoE). Ariela’s research interests centre on English Literature Education and university instruction. She’s particularly interested in how literature can be used as a tool for learning theory in higher education.
