Biography
Prof Mamookho Elizabeth Makhatha is a Polymer and Material Scientist, a researcher and educator. She obtained her Master’s and PhD degree in Materials and Polymer Chemistry from University of the Free State, in addition she obtained commerce certificate from UJ. She has gained industrial experience from Barloworld-Plascon Research Centre in Stellenbosch as a Research and Development Chemist, Prof Makhatha later joined Council for Science and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria as Research Scientist. She is currently Associate professor in Materials Engineering as well as Head of Metallurgy Department at University of Johannesburg. Prof Makhatha as a leader, teacher and a researcher at Metallurgy Department, she supervises postgraduate students, teaches Extractive Metallurgy, Analytical Techniques, Metallurgical accounting and Electrochemistry. Her current research activities focus on preparation and characterization of polymer and alloy composite materials; materials developed for high strength with high corrosion resistance; for the aerospace, mining and biomedical applications. As a registered Professional Natural Scientist (with SACNASP) she publishes papers in peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy
