Purpose
The purpose of this qualification is to prepare Diploma or National Diploma students for further learning in the fields of Financial Management and Management Accounting. The programme will prepare the student for the job market by enabling them to apply integrated knowledge and advanced conceptual thinking Skills to innovatively solve complex problems in Financial Management.
Admission Requirements
The minimum entry requirement is a Diploma in Accounting (NQF Level 6) with the University of Johannesburg (UJ). It is also possible to gain entry to the programme if you have completed a similar Diploma from another accredited University. Due to the limited spaces available for the programme, the following additional requirements must also be met to be considered:
• Grade 12 Mathematics, with a minimum APS score of 4 (not Mathematical Literacy) in the NSC, or a Senior Certificate with a minimum D-symbol for SG Mathematics.
• Students with an APS score for Mathematics below 4, SG Mathematics below a D or Mathematical Literacy will only be considered after completion of the Mathematics for Diploma students offered by the Faculty of Science at the University of Johannesburg to all second- and third-year Diploma students interested in pursuing further studies at the University.
• First time pass of Financial Accounting 3 and Cost & Financial Management 3 and
• A 55%+ average of 55% of Financial Accounting and Cost & Financial Management (Note: Preliminary selection of students applying in their third year will be based on second year results).
Selection Process
A strict selection process is followed and meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the programme as numerous applications are received annually that exceed the minimum requirements. All applicants will be subjected to a selection process as determined by the Department of Accountancy.
