Purpose
The Audiometrician will on completion of the course be able to operate in an Industrial/ Mining Health centre and be able to test the workers hearing, do the necessary counselling and refer appropriately. The audiometrician will be able to follow the legal requirements as stipulated by South African legislation. Occupational Health Staff can obtain extra competencies and contribute to the lowering of risks for the worker, Insurance company and the employer. In preventing hearing loss there is a definite contribution to the well being of human beings and a cost saving. The University of Johannesburg contributes to the setting of standards/ curriculum in a new field
