Duration of Study: Minimum time to complete is 2 years and the maximum time to complete is 3 years.
Purpose
The purpose of the programme is to qualify health professionals who at the end of the programme will have been empowered to analyse, strategize and offer solutions to challenges faced by Sub-Saharan countries including South Africa with respects to Environmental and Occupational threats and risks.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the MPH programme can pursue a wide range of career opportunities, including but not limited to Healthcare Manager, Health Promotion Specialist, Epidemiologist / Research Analyst, Public Health Project Manager, Health and Safety Manager, Public Health Educator, Biostatistician, Environmental and Occupational Health Manager.
Admission Requirements
- A health-related qualification at NQF Level 8 such as Environmental Health, Public Health, MBChB, Physiotherapy, Nursing, and other related equivalent qualification. (Non-South African students need to apply to SAQA for verification of the equivalence of the entry qualification) AND
- An average of 65% for the NQF Level 8 qualification or proven research and/or Project management experience AND
- A minimum of three to five years’ work experience in the field of Environmental Health and Occupational Health and Safety AND
- Three to five years’ experience in a management position in the Health Sector.
Selection Process
Selection is based on approval by the Faculty and programme co-ordinator. The selection of Master’s students will be done in accordance with rules and regulations of the Higher Degrees Committee of the University of Johannesburg as stipulated for inter-disciplinary programmes.
