Purpose
The purpose of this SLP is to empower already qualified optometrists with the additional knowledge, skills and insights required to manage selected ocular pathologies and to prescribe or administer approved schedule 2, 3 and 4 medicines for the treatment of ocular conditions in the course of optometric practice as per the promulgated scope of practice relating to Ocular Therapeutics. Foundational knowledge for these enhanced skills is already embedded within the diagnostic skills of the optometrist.
Admission Requirements
To apply and register for this SLP applicants must have: (a) Completed an Optometry Qualification which included ocular diagnostics in the curriculum as approved by the Professional Board for Optometry and Dispensing Opticians (PBODO) or have completed a postgraduate ocular diagnostic course as accredited by the PBODO and; (b) Have current registration with the HPCSA as a practicing Optometrist with ocular diagnostics
