Purpose

The purpose of this SLP is to afford an opportunity to current and aspiring professionals to further develop their skills, understanding of and competence in urban transport systems innovations. It specifically focuses on Sub-Saharan African mobility and access contexts and the role of technology in facilitating the development of sustainable urban transportation systems. The programme also highlights the financing and development of transport infrastructure and the influence of legislative and policy instruments on urban transport systems in African Cities. On completion of this SLP, a student would be able to evaluate the current mobility and access challenges of any city and to develop interventions that are informed by current and emerging theories in the field of sustainable urban planning and development.

Career Opportunities

The SLP aims at assisting relevant professionals to be more equipped to manage urban transport systems’ innovations and to advance their understanding, cultivate their expertise and build their capability in planning, designing, developing and managing the physical, socioeconomic, environmental and legislative aspects of urban transport systems. The proposed sustainable solutions are particularly relevant to the prevailing complex urban transport, mobility and access challenges of cities in the global south; declining formal public transport patronage, rising informality, and declining incomes to mention but a few.
